Stephen Thadius Crompton Gibb was born on Saturday, 1 December 1973 in London, England, the firstborn son of Barry and Lynda Gibb. He weighed 5 pounds and 8 ounces.

For a few years after Steve's birth he, along with his parents, lived in Douglas, Isle of Man, the place of his father's birth. Before Steve had reached his fourth birthday the family relocated to Miami Beach, Florida.

Miami has been the primary home base for Steve and his family since that time. Steve's family do also own an estate in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, England

Steve Gibb is at least a third generation musician via his father's side of the family. His paternal grandparents were involved in performing music during the 'big band' era. His father and uncles are internationally known songwriters and performers who reached the height of their success in the late 1970's.

Due in part to these influences and a number of others, Steve was determined to take the stage early in his life. An impressionable five year old in 1978, Steve was exposed to the highlights of musical success and fame, witnessing firsthand all the excitement his father and uncles were a part of at the time.

Ten years later, at the age of 15 he would vividly recall, in an interview with the Miami Herald, the thrill of their tours and performances saying, "I remember every little bit of it, all the fun they had. I never wanted to do anything else. I've been around it all my life and I don't know any better feeling. It's the best!"

In the Spring of 2002 Steve and his girlfriend, Gloria Anna Levas relocated from Los Angeles to Miami Beach. On the 7th of November 2002 Steve and Gloria were wed in a private ceremony.

On the 27th of December 2002 Steve and Gloria Gibb welcomed their daughter, Nina Lyn Levas Gibb into the world in the wee hours of morning. Nina was born at Miami Beach Maternity Birth Center, weighing in at just two ounces short of 10 pounds. On February 6, 2006 Angus Miles Levas Gibb was born to just a few pounds more than his big sister.

At present, when not on tour with Crowbar or Down, Steve resides in Miami Beach, Florida with his wife and children.
